Due to the bad weather situation and a dense cloud layer over the volcano summit at the 14th of May 2010, it was only possible for the islandic coast guard to get the shape of the new craters by using a thermal camera. Bigger crater 500m in diameter and the two smaller apprx 200m

The MODIS instruments on NASA's Aqua satellite captured the beginning of the eruption. On 14th of April (upper) only a mighty steam cloud could be seen. The developement of the ash plume from the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano over the North Atlantic at 13:20 UTC on 17 April 2010 was captured.
