Total lunar eclipse

The sighting of this lunar eclipse turned out to be quite exciting because of an ongoing cloud lottery. The Auerberg near the Alps was due to the dense cloud cover out of question. So the only option left was to flee in the northwestern direction to Aichach in Swabia.

The partial phase (1st contact) took place at 18:29. The beginning of totality at 19:31 CEST (2nd contact) with the moon entering the umbra was not visible from Bavaria and southern Germany. In Aichach, the moon was visible from around 19:41, while the sun set shortly afterwards at 19:44. The maximum of the eclipse was reached at 20:12, and the total phase (3rd contact) ended around 20:55. After that, the Earth's shadow on the moon could be observed for about another hour until the spectacle completely ended at 21:57 (4th contact).

However, from my observation point the so-called blood moon during the total phase became visible over the dense cloud-cirrus conglomerate around 20:30 by an altitude of ca. 7° over the horizon.

But then it became very clear and prompt the red-tinted earth's trabant stood there immaculately.
